Davis Cup Champs Ljubicic and Ancic Head for Debut in Duesseldorf

The Rochusclub is looking forward to welcome the reigning Davis Cup Champions from Croatia. Last December, Ivan Ljubicic and Mario Ancic put their country into collective, ecstatic joy after their final victory over Slovakia. The two Croatian national heroes will now represent their country at the ARAG ATP World Team Championship in May.

Naturally, tournament director Dietloff von Arnim was quite happy about the famous entries: The entry of the Davis Cup champions is a further large step on the road to a top field. 26-year-old Ivan Ljubicic has advanced to sixth position on the ATP rankings. He had his most successful season last year, when he played in eight finals, won two titles and qualified for the Masters Cup in Shanghai. In 2006 he continued to be in good shape by winning the tournaments in Chennai and Zagreb.

Mario Ancic, just 21 years old, meanwhile achieved his first tournament title last year, played already two finals in 2006 and is currently ranked 23rd. The two Croats are also a very strong doubles indeed. They won all their five Davis Cup matches in 2005-2006. Among their defeated opponents were also the Bryan twins of the USA, the currently best doubles in the world. And the Bryans will also play in the World Team Championship together with American top player Andy Roddick
