The American twins Bob and Mike Bryan have been the world's best doubles for years. The 28-year-olds will play for the fourth successive year on the Center Courts of the Duesseldorf Rochusclub attempting to achieve the ARAG World Team Championship title together with James Blake and Mardy Fish for the fifth time in order to make the USA the sole record winners of the event. The Americans will meet Chile, the 2003 and 2004 World champions, in their first tie on Monday.
The Bryans have already gained six tournament titles this year. The 2007 Australian Open champions most recently won the German Open in Hamburg last Sunday. Upon his arrival in Duesseldorf, Bob Bryan said: "We are now looking forward to the week at the Rochusclub and don’t think at all about Paris. To play in the same team with our friends Mardy Fish and James Blake – this can only be a good time for us."
The tie between Argentina and Sweden on Sunday once again emphasised how important the doubles are at the ARAG World Team Championship: Agustin Calleri and Juan Ignacio Chela decided the entire tie in favour of Argentina when they defeated Jonas Bjorkman and Thomas Johansson 10-6 in the long tie-break third set.
