Ljubicic Heading for Debut in Duesseldorf
The reigning Davis Cup champion Ivan Ljubicic of Croatia is the second worlds top player to sign for the 2006 ARAG ATP WORLD TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP. Ljubicic is currently ranked ninth in the world and the second top ten player after US star Andy Roddick to play in the World Team Championship in Duesseldorf.
The 26-year-old right-handed Croat celebrated the most successful year of his career in 2005. He recorded eight finals, won two titles and qualified for the Masters Cup in Shanghai. Just last week Ljubicic once again proved his standard by winning the ATP Tournament in Chennai, India. His greatest advantage is his serve Ljubicic won 88 percent of his serving games and only Andy Roddick recorded more aces.
His series in the 2005 Davis Cup ties is almost unique. Directed by team manager Niki Pilic he won 11 matches and lost only one (singles: 7-1, doubles: 4-0). Just the American tennis genius John McEnroe was a bit better in 1982 with twelve victories and no defeat. On the road to the Davis Cup title Ljubicic defeated the USA with their best players almost single-handedly in the first round thus eliminating the possibly strongest rivals. He defeated Andre Agassi as well as Andy Roddick in the singles and with partner Mario Ancic also the worlds currently best doubles Bob and Mike Bryan and that on "enemy" soil in California.
Duesseldorf to Host World-Class Tennis for Another Five Years The ARAG ATP World Team Championship will continue to host world-class international tennis at the Rochusclub in Duesseldorf, Germany, through 2012. The governing body of mens professional tennis, ATP and tournament organizers Rochusclub Turnier GmbH have extended the contract, expiring in 2007, by another five years.
This is going to be the 3rd teaser in rotation
